SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE
*More details on resume
I am a seasoned marketing and communications professional, exceptional at storytelling through a variety of mediums to elevate brand presence and drive action. My path in life is rooted in my passion to make the world a better place. I have worked with one of the highest-rated public universities in the country, one of the largest non-profit organizations in Michigan, and most recently. San Jose Clean Energy where I currently serve as Senior Public Information Representative.
Senior Public Information Representative
2024 - Current

In my current role as Senior Public Information Representative for San Jose Clean Energy, I work on marketing campaigns, program promotion, executive communications, mandatory noticing, residential and commercial newsletters, social media, web content development, and more. I developed and launched our largest ad campaign to date, advertising a variety of cost savings programs on Valley Transit Authority (VTA) buses and light rail throughout San Jose. I also helped execute our Energy Efficient Appliance Sale which achieved a 66% increase in customer participation over the previous year. Most recently, I managed our citywide giving campaign and will soon deliver our 2024 Annual Impact Report.
Communications Manager
2023 - 2023

As Communications Manager at East Bay SPCA, I made sure our brand identity aligned with our mission and vision across all communication channels. At an organization with nearly a 150-year history, this meant growing our legacy as a respected voice for animal welfare while engaging new and well-established audiences. Quickly after being hired, I secured media coverage with ABC7 News in San Francisco as well as partnership promotion with the Oakland A's for our upcoming annual fundraiser, which became our most successful to date. I also managed one Communications Specialist to create all of our print and digital content, including event program and signage, quarterly newsletter, direct mail campaigns, and e-newsletter sent to 40k subscribers.
Communications Specialist

2019-2023
During my time as Communications Specialist at one of the largest non-profits in the city of Detroit, I crafted the voice and image that supporters of Matrix Human Services are familiar with. Like an internal roving reporter, I created content to promote Matrix Human Services online and in print, ultimately to connect with supporters, engage donors, and promote our services. More specifically, I managed and updated the website, wrote & published web content to boost SEO, managed all social media channels, captured photos and videos for social media and the website, and created strategic communications plans with the Vice President of Marketing and Development including content marketing via commercials, billboards, social media campaigns, and more.
Triage and Document Imaging Associate

2016-2018
While working at The University of Michigan - Shared Services Center, I routed invoices to the correct departments for processing while following HIPPA laws for legal handling of sensitive medical information. This required great attention to detail and significant time emailing departments across the University. After discovering multiple language issues in our standard email templates, I updated all of them, improving communication standards for future use.

2014-2015
At this internship, I assisted the Deputy Director of the Ecology Center in Ann Arbor, MI, with creating email blasts, press releases, media advisories, web blog posts, and more. My role largely consisted of reading relevant environmental news and writing content featuring the latest findings from our scientific studies.

CAMPAIGN
EXAMPLE
Thanks to funding from the City of Detroit, Matrix Human Services received over $200K to run an advertising campaign targeting people living with HIV in hopes of signing up new clients into our HIV prevention and treatment program. My role included creation of all content, ad management, data monitoring, and creation of a landing page to capture phone calls and online sign-ups. I also created this report showcasing our success, which led to another round of funding from the City of Detroit.

MarKETING
EXAMPLES
The examples below highlight marketing content I created at Matrix Human Services, The Sierra Club, The Ecology Center, and East Bay SPCA. These include a brochure, an annual appeal letter, a magazine advertisement, and more, allowing you to see the attention to detail necessary to create each one. Also included are examples of written content, two of which are published on Matrix Human Services' website, as well as pieces for The Sierra Club, Ecology Center, and East Bay SPCA.

VIDEOGRAPHY
EXAMPLES
In 2017, I created a passion project YouTube channel that is no longer active but inspired my interest in video. Since then, I have created professional videos for Matrix Human Services, enabling us to save money on contract videographers. I have also worked extensively with Detroits's premier black-owned art gallery promoting their art shows. Please use the arrow on the right hand side to see more.
PHOTOGRAPHY
EXAMPLES
Photography has been a natural passion of mine along with videography. At Matrix Human Services, I replaced our contract photographers by taking photos myself for our social media, webpages, print materials, Google Map photos, and more. I have also worked as a contract photographer, most recently for The Detroit Institute of Arts - a world renowned art gallery in Detroit.

SUMMARY

In a world where everyone wants your attention, effective communications is more important than ever. Whether it is an engaging social media reel, a sleek brochure, a highly effective video ad, a stunning webpage, or an emotion-gripping photo, great content is essential for getting eyes on the target, but it's not the first step.

First and foremost is understanding your audience, second, your message goals, and third, determining your medium. Audience + message + medium = solid communications foundation. Each of these categories should be informed by good data before the creation of content begins.

I hope you enjoyed perusing my online portfolio. You may notice my experience crosses over into numerous categories of marketing and communications, especially content and digital marketing. My background in content creation has been invaluable in informing my communications strategy. Being able to speak the language of a writer, videographer, photographer, or graphic designer is incredibly important even if I am not the one doing the creating. These experiences have helped me create a well-rounded foundation for managing brand image and telling the story of any company or organization through communications that speak to their mission.

I would love to share with you more examples and I hope to do so in an interview! Thank you for taking the time to read this and I look forward to hearing from you.
About Me
I am grateful to have grown up in Northern Michigan, near Traverse City, where I developed an appreciation for nature and a Midwest humble but hardworking mentality. My first passions in life were basketball and music, causing me to spend two years in Chicago playing music before studying Communications at U of M. My experience there was extremely impactful in helping me understand the power and influence of mass media and ignited my passion to use it as a source for good.
Why is writing my expertise?
Among all of my technical skills, writing will always rank #1. I thrived in AP writing classes, I write articles on Medium.com for fun, and I won the Leland Stowe award for Communication Majors while at U of M, which required writing an essay about my future goals and who I am. I communicate best in writing and am a big fan of non-fiction because of my insatiable curiosity. I will forever seek to improve my writing ability simply because I enjoy it. Long live the Oxford Comma!
What I'm looking for
As mentioned in my introduction, my underlying motivation with each new project I take on is to make the world a better place. I thrive in environments with a mission that goes beyond making profit because the thrill of solving problems and providing ethically conscious products and services keeps me highly motivated. I also enjoy some variety and creativity in each role I take on. I'm looking to make a bigger impact with my next role that will involve more strategy and management.
